The BABOR FACE DESIGN CONCEPT

Throughout his career as a make-up artist, Peter Schmidinger has worked with thousands of beautiful woman and top models, enhancing their beauty for shows and photo shoots. He has developed a golden rule for applying make-up to make the face look more balanced using three easy steps. The most important rule: first the shape – then the color! To begin, it’s about making contours stronger or softening them, depending on the form of the face. In the new BABOR FACE DESIGN CONCEPT this is achieved by following the same three steps:

• Step 1 = Brightener
• Step 2 = Blush
• Step 3 = Eyebrows

In this brochure you will learn how to easily apply this principle. The goal is to look great all day long while only using a small amount of color. The FACE DESIGN CONCEPT is based on this essential principle: shape first, and then color! Every application of make-up begins by recognizing and then perfecting the form of the face. To be able to make a face visually balanced and even, you must first determine the shape of the face. Colors can become true highlights only when used on a face that has been perfectly shaped. To do this the following facial attributes should be analyzed:

• Length
• Width
• Features: eyes, eyebrows, cheeks, mouth

There are basically four different facial shapes, which in turn can be divided in two categories:

Oval: faces with soft contours.
Round: faces with soft contours.

Triangular: faces with strong contours.
Square: faces with strong contours.

The Oval Face

Characteristics:

Characteristics of an oval face:

• Widest area = the cheekbones
• The outer contour narrows at the forehead and chin.
• Balanced division in thirds:

1st third: from the hairline to the eyebrows
2nd third: from the eyebrows to the tip of the nose
3rd third: from the tip of the nose to the chin

Characteristics of the facial features:

• The eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth conjoin    harmoniously in the shape of the face.

The Round Face

Characteristics:

Characteristics of a round face:

• Widest area: the width of the face is the same as its height.• There are no edges or angles in the outer contours.• Balanced division in thirds (forehead area – nose area – chin area).

Characteristics of the facial features:

• Eyes: appear compressed, possibly with a slight hooded lid.
• Nose: appears flat and somewhat wide.
• Mouth: appears full, but without any clear contours.

The Triangular Face

Characteristics:

Characteristics of a triangular face:

• Widest area: the forehead.• The outer contour narrows at the chin.

Characteristics of the facial features:

• Eyes: are close together, they appear to lie deep in their sockets.
• Eyebrows: stretch out flat.
• Tip of the nose: may appear long or wide.• Mouth: the upper lip appears to be thin.

The Square Face

Characteristics:

Characteristics of a square face:

• Widest area: forehead and jaw.• A straight outer contour.• Balanced division in thirds (forehead area – nose area – chin area).   1st third: the hairline to the eyebrows.   2nd third: the eyebrows to the tip of the nose.   3rd third: the tip of the nose to the chin.

Characteristics of the facial features:

• Eyes: seem large.
• Nose: is perfect, but can appear wider from the strong outer facial contours.
• Mouth: is full and has contours.

An oval face needs more

contours.

Step 1: Brightener

A light triangle under the eyes and a light out - line around the mouth give the face structure. Using the PERFECT SKIN ILLUMINATOR highlight a triangle from the inner to the outer corner of the eyes and around the mouth. The foundation – DELUXE FOUNDATION for example – can be set using powder, but powder should not be used on the brightener.

Step 2: Blush

Apply the blush under the cheekbones from the ear to the middle of the pupil. Apply the blush from the outside of the face moving in toward the center. This brings out the cheekbones giving the face more contours. Apply blush in the forehead area from the eyebrows to the hairline at a slant.

Step 3: Eyebrows

A well formed eyebrow should slope upward in the first two thirds and downward in the last one.

A round face needs to be

shaped with strong contours

Step 1: Brightener

Using the PERFECT SKIN ILLUMINATOR -specially designed for use on the softer parts of the face- draw a triangle under the eyes and around the mouth; but not higher than the visible nasolabial fold area which elongates the face.

Step 2: Blush

The new BABOR FACE DESIGN COLLECTION

blush comes with two shades; the darker shade is for contouring the cheek area, and the lighter shade is for adding shadow to the forehead area. Apply the blush under the cheekbones from the ear to the middle of the pupil. Apply the blush from the outside of the face, moving

toward the center. This brings out the cheekbones giving the face more contours.

Step 3: Eyebrows

Draw an imaginary vertical line up from the

outer edge of the eye; where it touches the eyebrow is where the highest point should be.

The existing contours of

the triangular face need to

be softly shaped.

Step 1: Brightener

The PERFECT SKIN ILLUMINATOR makes the area around the eye look softer and makes the eye itself look fresher and brighter. Draw a light crescent from the inner corner to the end of the eye and close above the mouth. Set the foundation with powder –AGE CONCEAL FOUNDATION for example- but do not put any on the brightener.

Step 2: Blush

Apply the blush on the cheekbones from the ear to the middle of the pupil. Apply the blush from the outside of the face moving toward the center. Shade the corners of the hairline diagonally with blush.

Step 3: Eyebrows

The eyebrow should slope up two thirds and slope down one third. This makes the eye appear more open and gives it a lift.

The square face is even more

beautiful when the contours

are softly shaped.

Step 1: Brightener

Draw a light crescent from the inner corner of the eye to the end of the eye as well as close over the mouth with the PERFECT SKIN ILLUMINATOR. This pulls the focus and softens the strongly contoured areas. First apply foundation, then the brightener, and finally set it with powder – but not on the brightened areas!

Step 2: Blush

For a perfectly balanced beautiful appearance apply the blush on the cheekbones from the ear to the middle of the pupil. Apply the blush from the outside of the face moving toward the center. Shade the corners of the forehead along the hairline diagonally with blush.

Step 3: Eyebrows

A well-formed eyebrow should slope upwards two thirds and downwards one third. This makes the eye appear more open and gives it a lift. Fill the eyebrows in with consecutive lines defining the highest point towards the end of the brow.
