The DHL Project GoGreen enabled BARBOR to save 50.66 tons of CO2 in the second year of its participation. In 2008 it was 22.38 tons of CO2, corresponding to a CO2 emission of 6 long haul flights to the US. In 2009 BABOR`s reduced CO2 emissions corresponded to almost six flights around the world.
The transport of goods produces huge amounts of CO2 everyday. To counteract climate change which results from this, DHL designed the climate protection programme GoGreen. All BABOR parcels, packages and letters have been transported in vehicles with lower than usual CO2 emissions since 2008. Furthermore, an extra charge of 5 ct for every BABOR package is made and donated to climate protection programmes all over the world, such as a reforestation programme for the rain forest in Central America.
GoGreen is a CO2-neutral postal service based on what is known as Carbon Management: measure – reduce – compensate. Carbon Management calculates CO2 emissions resulting from the transport and management of dispatches. Carbon Management also introduces internal measures to reduce CO2 emissions. This includes the use of alternative fuels such as biogas or vehicles with hybrid or fuel cell technology. DHL also supports climate protection projects which compensate for CO2 emissions.
